Excursion Tips
Due to the closeness of the Visegrád Mountains, Tahitótfalu is the ideal starting point of an excursion.

Excursions from Tahitótfalu

We set off from Tahi Bridge (Szabadság Tér [Freedom Square]), we go straight ahead towards Esztergom about 300 metres to the Bercsényi Street which leads us across Tahi into the woods. Follow the yellow sign. After about one kilometre the path splits at the wooden cross, one path continues to follow the yellow sign, the other, a road for cyclists, follows the green sign. This latter one is not marked as a tourist route.

1. If we follow the yellow sign on the right side of Ugró-patak, we reach the so-called Leány-kút spring. After about a hundred-metre-long hairpin bend, we reach the Yellow Circle sign. Having passed that, we cross Villám-patak and reach the Hétvályús forrás. After that we have to climb a steep path until reaching the red sign. Turning left, after a few hundred metres we reach Vörös-kő from the north-west. We have a wonderful view of Szentendre Island and the Danube valley from here. At Vörös-kő there is a memorial and a hut to protect us from rain.
From Vörös-kő following the red sign in the direction of Pilisszentlászló we reach Pap-rét to the north-west. It is about 3,5 kilometres from Vörös-kő to Pap-rét. One option is to follow the yellow sign from here to Tahitótfalu. The other option is that we follow the green sign after Vértes-mező, crossing Kalicsa-patak in the direction of Dunabogdány, since the green and red signs go side by side for a while. From Vörös-kő to Tahitótfalu it is about 3,5 kilometres, from Vörös-kő to Dunabogdány about 8,5 kilometres.
We can follow the yellow sign from Vörös-kő to the south-west, and later the yellow and green signs. After Álló-rét following the green sign then the yellow + sign, we reach Szentendre and the Sztradavoda forrás, and the Szentendre Open-Air Folk Museum. From here we can take the local bus down to the centre of Szentendre. (The Vörös-kő - Szentendre - Open Air Folk Museum excursion is approximately 5,5 kilometres long.) If we follow the red sign from Vörös-kő to the south-southeast, we get to Leányfalu and it is about 3 kilometres.

2. Following the green sign for cyclists to the west for about two kilometres, we get to an information board. It is another kilometre to Nádastói-rét from here. A few hundred metres from Nádastói-rét, near Kalocsa-patak, there is a group of volcanic cliffs, Sas-feszek, from which there is a wonderful view. If we continue to follow the green sign for tourists, crossing the Kalicsa-patak we can head for Dunabogdány, or, turning in the opposite direction, we climb the hill along a fence and reach Vértes-mező. Following the red and yellow signs from here we can go to Vörös-kő, or, following the red sign, turning left, crossing Zánkói rét and Palócki-rét, we get to Pap-rét towards Pilisszentlászló.

Cycling Tours from Tahitótfalu

In the Visegrád-mountains, in the Duna-Ipoly Natural Reserve the Regional Development Fund of North-Pest County made it possible to go on cycling tours, on condition that you keep to the rules.

1. There is a cycling path starting from Tahitótfalu, from the above mentioned Bercsényi Street. It is marked with a green bicycle sign. The direction is the same as in the case of the above mentioned second excursion to Nádastói-rét. Approximately 200 metres before it, however, it turns right facing north, and then after turning left, it reaches the Kalicsa-valley. Turning north, we can see the red sign for cyclists after about a kilometre. Following the green sign we can reach Dunabogdány after cycling for about 3 kilometres.

2. Following the red sign for cyclists to the south-west (left) (this section is part of the nationwide blue + sign), we reach Pap-rét after four kilometres of cycling. From there we can either cycle 4.5 kilometres to Pilisszentlászló by following the blue sign or, turning right, cycling 7.5 kilometres through Apátkút-völgy to Visegrád. Or, to the left, following the green sign for cyclists for about 12.5 kilometres in the valley of the Sztaravoda stream (Királyok völgye) we can reach Szentendre.
It should be pointed out that all of the roads from Pap-rét leading to the above mentioned towns are in excellent condition and one of them goes past the Szentendre Open Air Museum, past the Füvészkert in Visegrád and it crosses the Panoráma road.

3. You should not miss Szentendre Island. Kisoroszi lies approximately 10 kilometres away from Tahitótfalu to the north and the northern part of the Island belongs to it. There is a ferry between Kisoroszi and Visegrád-Szentgyörgypuszta on the right, and a ferry between Kisoroszi and Verőce on the left. On the left bank of the Danube there is a road for cyclists from Budapest all the way to Szob. There is a blue-signed path for cyclists to the south of Tahitótfalu as well. This leads to the neighbouring village, Pócsmegyer and its Halastó and to the ferry between Pócsmegyer and Leányfalu.

Suggestions for longer excursions

Rám-szakadék is a very popular destination in spite of the fact that in wet weather it is dangerous. It is best to set off in Dömös, from where the path goes along the valley of Szőke-forrás for quite a while parallel to the road. You should follow the red and green sign from which you should turn to the green sign towards Rám-szakadék on the right. Having crossed it, after about a kilometre you can reach a road. Turning south, you can find a steep path leading to Dobogókő (2 km's).
There are other excursion opportunities from the valley of Szőke-forrás, there is a red sign which leads us up to Prédikálószék from where there is a stunning view over the Danube Bend. You can see the large volcanic cliffs of Vadálló-kövek. However, it is an exhausting excursion because you have to climb 639 metres on a two-kilometre way. It is extremely tiring but it is worth the stunning view!
